Our 2007 Syrah grabs the baton from the ‘06 and sprints forward, showing the depth and power of the vintage. This year’s Central Coast Syrah is loaded with pepper, dried herbs, cocoa and earth on the nose. On the palate, there’s lots of black cherry and cassis and a rich blueberry reduction. The dark fruit profile builds through the finish with blackberry, black plum and a touch of cola carrying on and on – it lingers for minutes. The fruit and spice is balanced by fine-grained tannins, great acidity and hints of stone. A balanced wine that’s mighty easy to drink, but can hang with the serious crowd. In our book, another Syrah lover’s Syrah.
